Find a nail lady you love and be faithful to her. I’ve had three nail technicians since starting my acrylic career: Kathy, Anna and Rachel. Each one is special to me, though geography does come between us. Find someone you connect with, who knows your style and isn’t afraid to help you bust out of your comfort zone every so often. Once, Anna had me wearing hot-pink and leopard-print claws with rhinestones. It was so not my style, but I loved it. I tip my technicians in cash and try to tip 30-40% each time. Rachel sings as she does my nails!

Remember , when I got my very first set of acrylic nails? I’d never fallen prey to the pink-and-white French tip sets in high school during prom season, but my natural nails suck, so I threw some tips on them.

A year later, I still do not regret a single thing. My acrylic nails are my babies, my true love. They’ve become just another of my “things,” like blonde hair and red lipstick.

Fashionable nails have been all the rage lately. Gone are the days when a popply popular.

Acrylic nails are a type of artificial nail extensions applied on top of your natural nails. They are sturdy, durable and typically long. Acrylic nails are perfect for people who want the look of long nails but have trouble growing out their own nails or have weak nails that break easily.

Beside these practical benefits, they are stunning to look at. They embellish the hands, make the fingers appear longer and give them a gorgeous appearance. They come in a standard, long size and can be trimmed and shaped according to your preference.

Acrylic nail supplies are readily available at any drugstore or beauty supply store. You can also purchase them online. With the right shade of nail polish, a little nail art and a few hand accessories, acrylic nails accentuate not just your hands but also your overall appearance.

Going to the salon to get your acrylic nails done is an option, albeit a costly and time-consuming one. You can save your time and money as well as get creative and experiment with different designs by applying acrylic nails on your own in the comfort of your home.

Easy way to Acrylic nails at home

*** Resolve
to buy the materials separately
: For better control over the arrival
of your acrylics, you may want to buy the supplies separately. This way you’ll
also be prepared when it’s time to reapply acrylic after your nails grow out.
Go to a beauty supply store and buy the following supplies.

*** Acrylic nails
tips and nail tip glue:
The tips are usually quite long, which
allows you to trim and file them down to the shape and size you want.
***Acrylic nails clippers and
files
. Regular scissors and files aren’t as effective on acrylic
nails.180, 240, 1000 & 4000 grit should be enough. You might need an even
coarser file than the 180 grit if the end result is very clumpy.

*** Acrylic liquid and acrylic powder: These substances are mixed
together to create acrylic nails. As said before, stay away from MMA monomers,
go for the EMA (always read what ingredients is used!).

***Acrylic bowl
and acrylic brush
. You need these supplies to mix up the acrylic and apply it. Wherever between sizes #8-12 might be a
good choice.

***Training fingers or a training hand. I know you are very eager to
do your first nails on your own hands – or on someone else. But before that you
should, and probably need, to practice on something that won’t harm you or
anyone else. Remember these are strong substances which may cause allergies if
you aren’t careful. Do your first (at least) 10 tries on a training finger or
hand. When you are good enough so the material does not go outside of the
practice nail, do a few more and then you can start to think about doing it on
a real hand? Dislikes are for life, if you are unsure, don’t do it on someone
else than on yourself.
